Up first, Canadian pop singer/songwriter Ryland James performed a thirty minute acoustic set. This was not my first encounter with James’ music, since I had seen him open for Scott Helman in 2018 and Alessia Cara in 2019. He sang hit singles such as “In My Head”, “Shoulder To Cry On”, and a cover of Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain”, all while receiving appreciation from the rows of viewers.
With just a guitar in hand, James attracted the audience and gained a good number of new admirers along the way.
Chanting the artist’s name and receiving a cute visit from her golden retriever, Willow, fans were ecstatic to meet Alicia Moffet on the first night of her Intertwine tour. This tour is in celebration of her recent project, Intertwine, and will be showcased around Quebec until the end of March. During the time leading up to her headline tour, Moffet teased how much work she and her team have been putting into the shows… Her Montreal show proved that hard work indeed pays off.
Supported by band members Gabriel Thibault, Oliver Savoie-Campeau, Vincent Gendron, and Maxime Lévesque, they put on a great show with a ton of surprises along the way (which Moffet had teased at the beginning of the show). Those surprises were duets with collaborators such as Zach Zoya, Jamie Fine, and Fouki, and a “Medley des Rejetées” (an acoustic medley of unreleased tracks).
After interviewing her during the release of “Lullaby”, I have always been excited to catch a show of hers, and it lived up to my expectations…. if not, more.
