Valley Releases “Champagne”

I’ve listened to Champagne so much I’m definitely drunk.
The four piece indie-pop group, Valley, fresh off their sold out “i’ll be with you” headlining tour releases their latest single, “Champagne,” a fast moving pop-timistic track detailing the inevitable highs and lows of life.
Stepping out from behind the kit, drummer and female vocalist Karah James takes the lead vocal, hooking the listener the way the band always does by starting with a story. Immediately the beat begs you to bob your head up and down while the lick before the chorus brings you right back to the lyrics. The play on words here is clever – we expected nothing less.
Guitarist and vocalist Rob Laska is layered beneath Karah’s for the first and second line of the chorus, ‘You can break my heart, I’m not broken / I can build a house with the stones you’re throwing’ lines reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s “New Romantics” ‘I could build a castle out of all the things they threw at me.’ Bassist Alex Dimauro and guitarist Mickey Brandolino join to finish off the play on words, aiding Karah’s dreamy lead.
The band’s self-awareness is a theme that resonates through every song. With nearly half a million streams after only 6 days of being up on Spotify, they seem to never take for granted the good and are still mindful of the bad. This is reflected not only in “Champagne” but in their release of Last Birthday and Consequently, After Party. The Toronto-based foursome will be at Governer’s Ball this June and play 3 more festivals the rest of the summer.
