Brooklane Releases “Breakaway”.

Combining distinctive lyricism with punchy pop-punk instrumentals, Brooklane’s new single, Breakaway, creates a captivating listening experience that pulls the listener into a shared moment of relationship toxicity and falsified love.

Brooklane is an up-and-coming North Dakota-based pop-punk band with over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. With the band's debut being amidst the 2020 pandemic, they’ve been featured in Alternative Press Magazine and are now signed to We Are Triumphant.

Their influence by bands such as The Story So Far and State Champs definitely feels reminiscent in this single, with energetic guitar riffs and Alex Anderson’s powerful vocals bringing the listener some traditional pop-punk nostalgia. However, the band doesn’t fail to tie in new experimental elements to make the genre their own.

The midi synthesizer line that recurs throughout parts of the song allows for a coherent transition between sections and ties together a clear atmosphere. Additionally, the shift into the trap beat juxtaposed with the clean guitar riffs creates a strong dynamic between the old and the new, pulling the listener back in for more.

“Breakaway describes how a toxic relationship can take its toll on someone when they are controlled by them for too long. You start to lose yourself and hold on to a false sense of love. Sometimes they will ignore you to pull you back in, so one of my favorite lyrical lines in the song is ‘Another missed call on your phone is all I'll ever be,’” Alex Anderson said. “We love playing the chorus live because of its driving guitars and energy. I think it will give us a chance to really connect with the crowd and share a relatable moment with a lot of people who think they are alone dealing with something like this.”

Brooklane’s spin on pop-punk is refreshing to listen to and would be exhilarating to see on stage within a larger crowd. The band is currently gearing up to co-headline a North American tour this summer with Chief State and Unwell, so be sure to catch Breakaway in its wholly immersive experience with the band members themselves.
