Plain Mister Smith Releases “El Presidente”.

Written by Laury Verdoux

In the mystic realm where indie-folk meets the enigmatic, Plain Mister Smith has once again emerged from the shadows, with his latest single, “El Presidente”. With this new release, the artist seamlessly blends folk with pop elements.

Hailing from the musical crossroads between Vancouver and London, Plain Mister Smith, the brainchild of composer Mark Jowett, has intrigued audiences with his elusive persona and bewitching melodies. Formerly a guitarist for Canadian Electronic band Moev, he now graces the stages of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, demonstrating the breadth of his musical prowess.

The origins of Plain Mister Smith are as elusive as the man himself. Legend has it that Mark Jowett woke up one day to find a man in a pinstriped suit with a globular head staring back at him. Was it an apparition, a mysterious stranger, or a musical persona taking human form? The details remain shrouded in mystery, but what emerged from this encounter was the birth of Plain Mister Smith.

In 'El Presidente’, Plain Mister Smith continues his tradition of brilliance and absurdity, drawing comparisons to the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Elliott Smith but with a unique touch of wit and unpredictability. Featuring the soothing vocals of Findlay Brown, the track is an eclectic mix of entrancing instrumentals, including intricate Latin acoustic guitar chords, arpeggios, and a touch of cello and synthesized pads for added harmonics.
