From being recognized by artists like Jessie Reyez and Finneas from her cover series, and being on Canadian TV show The Launch, Jayde has been killing it in the music industry. The pop artist from Peterborough has released a handful of singles throughout a few years, and two years later, she’s back with “Electricity”, an emotional love song.

Most people know you’re from The Launch season 2, are there any things that you learnt there that you still use to this day?

Performing wise I would say that I still use a lot of the techniques that I was taught on The Launch. Using the whole stage was one of the things that was a big part of my coaching on The Launch so yeah, I’d say like stage work.

And you auditioned with “Don’t Kill My Vibe” by Sigrid,

Yes I did!

one of my personal favourites, but why did you pick that song? Was there a specific reason?

It was one of my favourite songs at the time, it was one of those songs that kind of just puts you in a good mood I guess. So I just figured it would be a good song choice in terms of just stepping on TV and then singing something, and having people kind of understand who you are from the song you pick.

And just like vocally, it’s amazing.

Yeah it’s a very hard song to sing, I will say that much.

But you killed it!

Thank you!!

Of course! So, “Electricity” is your first single of the year, do you feel as if the song is a good way to re-introduce yourself to the year?

I think, for sure, I think I’m actually kind of like re-introducing myself - like ever. Does that make sense?

Yeah for sure!

I’m like, people don’t know who I am from what I released before - I don’t think, where I think like “Electricity” kind of takes you on that story and like let’s you have a little insight on my life through the past 3 years.

So like, you became a new person musically, is what you’re trying to say?

Yeah, it’s just like, I definitely used the last year and a half to figure myself out artistically, because you know, developing your sound to your songwriting takes a long time obviously. So, I think over the last year all I’ve been doing is songwriting and kind of staying in the shadows a bit, so I think that’s kind of where “Electricity” starts.

It’s such a great song, by the way!

Thanks! I’m glad you like it.

Most of your songs are about heartbreak, which isn’t a bad thing at all, but have you ever noticed that?

Yeah, I have such a hard time writing happy songs and it’s not because I’m not a happy person, it’s just that I feel like when I go to write something, it’s because something has happened that I need to get off my chest. And usually when you’re happy, you don’t have that same weight that you need lifted, because when you’re happy obviously you don’t have any weight because you’re happy. So I think a lot of my songs are just like sad heartbreak songs, because those are the moments in which I feel the most creative and the most able to connect with people.

Since this is your first single of the year, and first single in 2 years, what could we expect next?

So I’m hoping to do an EP, that’d be really cool, in like the next year and a bit. But definitely just keep your eye out for a lot of singles because they are coming!

Jayde has a way of making sad songs into music you can dance to, while you even shed a few tears. Keep your eyes open for her, she’s definitely going places soon.
