Interview with Shizz Lo.
Interviewed by: Sarah Evangelista
What's your fondest musical memory?
Traveling on the road with my friends in my teens while going to see my favorite bands around the country. The Bamboozle Festival was probably my favorite! Like most, finally getting the chance to see all of my favorite artists was probably my most fond musical memory.
Did you always want to make music? If not, what were the other options?
Ever since I was a kid music was all I could think of, never really been interested in anything else. I couldn't wait to get home to bang on my brand new drum set when I was 13. Eventually, I traded my drum set for a pair of turntables in high school where I would collect vinyl from all over and try to match random acapellas to beats I was working on. I wouldn't change anything at this point, but if I had to, I would pursue a career where I’d help those struggling with drug and alcohol addictions.
You recently released Power Trip - EP, how does it feel for it to be out into the world?
It's such a breath of fresh air! The writing process for these songs was such a positive outlet while I was in quarantine last year. To see people enjoy them really couldn't make me any happier.
What was the process of experimenting your sound like?
I am always trying to push the boundaries of my music. I think that my latest EP is a great representation of that. I try not to conform to any sound and in return that usually ends up being a multi-genre production. As I continue to write new music today, I really want to take people on a journey through new sounds. I’m really excited to get this other music I’ve been writing out there!
I heard you love ice cream, what’s your favourite flavour?
YES I DO! How could you not!? Currently, I think that The Tonight Dough Ice Cream by Ben & Jerry's is my favorite. I also really enjoy any local small batch ice cream!
Our music website focuses on up and coming artists and bands do you have any favourites at the moment?
My good friend Brainrack is one of my favorite up & coming producers right now. Also - there’s a super dope band that will be coming out of Philly soon called Interkon. I’m really stoked for people to hear what they’ve been working on!
