Interview with Comfort Club.

Interviewed by: Nico

Comfort Club is an indie pop artist based out of LA, and we have a wonderful new song from him titled “Not Over Falling For You Yet”. You can definitely hear some cool indie pop vibes in this song adjacent to The Band Camino, DISQ and more!

Since he just released the song, we had to listen to the song together!

While listening to it, Colin shared a few things about the song production!

(recommend listening to the song right now as you read if you haven’t :P)

Colin: I love the rhythm of the verse, it's just so… rhythmic haha (mumbles to the verse),

*while the chorus plays* there’s that cool guitar line in the chorus I love, and also that little one on this second verse! Oh, here in the keychange my girlfriend came at me out of the blue saying it feels like a Disney song, haha

Nico: Well, everyone loves some Disney classics! Also I personally loved the ad libs you do on this song.

Thanks, I’ve liked trying to do those more. I really just like learning from different artists and picking up little things that work for me. Like I really love how Charlie Puth does that with ad libs in the spaces every single time on a song like Attention, so I just kind of try to take a tiny bit of that and throw it into my music.

Thank you so much for sharing that, really loving the new music you are releasing.  What is coming after “Not Over Falling For You Yet” ? What is Comfort Club bringing to us?

Well, I am putting out a string of songs this year that will be a part of a larger body of work that feels super honest to me. I feel like I’ve always made indie pop music, but now I am truly exploring my sound even more and I’ve been super inspired by the sound of The 1975, Valley, & COIN. So really just trying to focus in on that even more and start trying to carve out a space for myself in that realm.

That’s awesome! What is your goal for the next few releases?

I am exploring true pop melodies, and trying to have a more of a mainstream appeal that is still inherently me. I wanna make music that can have mass appeal––that can have palatability! I’m trying to go for a style that has a little something for everyone and I am trying to be more intentional about it and focus on making something that anybody could like. I don’t think that saying I want to be popular is a bad thing and I want to be popular! Not afraid to come out and say it haha!

How have you been approaching the whole social media momentum with your music, and with TikTok and other social media?

Candidly, my momentum with releases has been trending downwards when it comes to like streaming and stuff like that but the shelf life of my songs seems to be growing so I’m really just trying to focus on patience. I think TikTok has sort of changed general expectations for songs to do like a hundred thousand streams on the first day but I’m truthfully just excited to see my songs grow slowly and find their way into people’s lives. Up to this point, I had convinced myself that I’ve tried everything, but now I’m focused on trying to constantly release music. It’s something I haven’t really done before so I am just happy to try it and see how it goes!

I’ve had pretty big gaps of time in between releases but I’ve given myself permission to not be a perfectionist and just put stuff out more frequently.

So with that shift in the industry, how are you approaching the release process?

I think that there are so many artists in the space so I’m just trying to recalibrate my brain and recognize that my idea of metrics of success are probably outdated now and I’m trying to just act like I’m brand new again and start getting inspired to have little victories. Also when I play shows I want to play from a big catalog that I love so when it comes to momentum I'm not thinking of it as much in the sense of social media, but thinking of the music career I want to have down the road.

Yeah, that’s wonderful how you’re so aware of your own path, and the love you put in it really shows through in your music! Now for a last fun send off question, what do you think you’d do if you won the lottery?

So it’s funny that me and my friends were talking about this a couple of days ago at dinner. I think it would be so interesting to fund a music career and do a nationwide tour where you pay people to come to your show and then if your music is good enough, they would actually become fans and you would build awareness of your project that way. It’s kind of like advertising your music in real life. I just thought it would be a funny concept to try and see what happens. And I would buy a ton of robux so that I could make my character on there have more swag than my girlfriend and my friend haha.

Love how much you just love sharing your music, from TMEB we wish you the best in these following releases and can’t wait to hear what you’ll share with your fans next!
