Blondshell has a commanding presence. With lead singer Sabrina Teitelbaum’s low vocal range and rock attitude, the rising alt-rock star from Los Angeles had everyone in the room hooked, throwing her head back and comfortably bouncing around on stage as she let the guitar and strobing lights take over.
The night started with a burst of high energy, with classics like “Veronica Mars,” and
even their song, “Joiner,” which had been released the day before, had the crowd singing and moving along. One of the last songs in the set was a cover of “Disappointment” by the Cranberries which highlighted the likeness in their sounds and showed how Blondshell has been inspired and influenced by the likes of O’Riordan and other female rockers. Be sure to check out their debut self-titled album which is out April 7th!
Next up was Suki Waterhouse, who has been making a name for herself as a model and actress since the age of sixteen, but stunned the internet with her hit single “Good Looking” she released in 2017. Suki is back in Montreal for a sold out TD show as a part of her first headline tour after opening for Father John Misty back in September, touring
her latest EP Milk Teeth and earlier 2022 album, I Can’t Let Go.
On stage she looked like an 80’s fantasy come to life, her hair blown back by a series of light fans as she swayed to the beat in her oversized blazer, lit by a series of warm lights. The stage was dressed with gathered, sheer white curtains which gave the show an delicate and ethereal feel as Suki serenaded the crowd. She oozed charisma and was full of love for both her band and the crowd, who welcomed her with open arms and trekked through a blizzard to come see the show. Emotions ran high as she asked for everyone to channel their own energy into a collective weep and release during her performance of “Melrose Meltdown” towards the end of the set, and the crowd held onto her airy tones and soft runs as she sang them through the night. It was a delicate and powerful performance and Suki was clearly a performer who got lost in the music, carried away by the harmonies of it all, which made for a poignant and open
performance.
