After a ten-month musical hiatus, LA-based boy band PRETTYMUCH has returned, releasing their new single “Talking 2 U” on July 29. Interpolated from Tears for Fears’ 1984 #1 song “Shout”, PRETTYMUCH offers a new, refreshing take on a classic sure to leave listeners both new and old talking about it.
Written by the group’s five members, Brandon Arreaga, Edwin Honoret, Austin Porter, Nick Mara, and Zion Kuwonu, the song features production from Harmony Jones (Ariana Grande, Keyshia Cole) and was first teased on PRETTYMUCH’s TikTok account back in April. The song was promoted through a series of videos until a release date was delivered in mid-July amidst heavy anticipation from their fans, affectionately dubbed the BEANZ (named after the first initials of the group’s members). PRETTYMUCH stated that they “really wanted an empowering record and love letter to our fans who have always been by our side. Through the lyrics, we feel like we get to connect with each and every one - individually and as a group.” The song’s shoutable chorus features Arreaga and Honoret trading adlibs as Kuwonu sings “Shout, shout, let it all out/these are the girls that we’re talking about”, remixing a popular hit into an upbeat anthem for the fans.
Since being formed in 2015, the quintet has amassed over one billion streams worldwide and have captured the hearts of millions across the globe, culminating in them signing with Sire Records to cap off 2020. The group plans to release more music soon, so prepare for 2022 to be their biggest year yet!
