Parker Graye Releases Her Debut Single, ‘Do Over’ [Q&A].
Interviewed by: Sarah Evangelista
‘Do Over’ is your debut single, how does it feel to finally release your debut track?
It's equal parts exciting and terrifying. haha Do Over was written back in November of 2017 on skype with John Strandell and Logan Miller who I'd met via Instagram through another project I was working on at the time. This was my first co-write with the two St.Louis, MO musicians so I wasn't totally sure how it would go, I just knew it would be country, a departure from what I was working on. I often post lyrics on my Instagram stories as a test to see how people react to it, Do Over started as an IG Story lyric that John recommended we work on for that co-write. Needless to say, it's been a journey with this song and I'm very excited to be giving this one to the world (finally).
You post a ton of covers and snippets of original tracks on social media, what’s been your favourite song to sing lately?
Yesss! I'd say ‘I Love You More’ by Nick Wayne. I'd been a fan of this song for a long while but I'd never really tried to cover it. The day I recorded the clip you see on Instagram I was dealing with a plethora of emotions and the song's meaning shifted for me that day. It was bang on to what I was feeling and experiencing that week and I connected with a part of me I haven't in a long time.. hello deep feels, my old friend.
The new tune speaks of wanting a do over with a past romantic partner, do you think the song will make people want to fall in love again?
I really hope so! Whether this is seen as a good thing or not, I'm the type of person that no matter how bad my heart gets broken, I still dive right in with my whole heart and give it all I've got (maybe sometimes to a disservice). This song embodies that idea in some ways, things just not working but wanting nothing more than to go back to the beginning when all the drama, chaos and roadblocks didn't exist. I think when we fall in love (or lust) we really hold onto a handful of moments that made us feel the most special or loved, maybe in a way we haven't felt before. Those are so hard to let go of (sometimes more than the actual person) and when I was writing this song, I was certainly grasping at those moments (as you hear in the bridge). To bookend, don't be afraid of fighting for love, don't let people exist in your life without reminding them how you feel about them, even if you don't know how it will all end.
We know this is only your debut single, but could we expect an EP in the works too?
Haha, we'll seeeee! Stay tunnneed! ;)
Our website is all about up and coming artists, would you like to give a shout out to some of your favourites at the moment?
