The five piece indie/rock band has had quite the year, one reason being that they’ve reached over a million streams on Spotify, just by their past four singles that were released - that’s quite impressive! Ocean Heights put out their newest song last week, and I had the opportunity to chat with them on “Call”.

First off, could you all introduce yourselves and what your roles are in the band?

Howdy! we’re ocean heights. You got Justin Wilkerson on Vocals on Guitar. Young Frank on Lead guitar. Josh Carboni on the bass, Tylor Salazar on keys and Lebron James on the drums.

"Call" is your third single of the year, why do you think the song needs to be heard by people these days?

I wanted to show people that were pretty diverse with “Call”. We started the year with some mellow sauce and got progressively more upbeat as the year went on so “Call” is like the big slowdown during the concert where everyone grabs the person next to them and cries.

Do you feel as if your sound as a band has evolved already, just by the 3 years of releasing music?

Oh yea sooooo much, we were making completely different stuff when we first started. I can’t even stand to listen to it myself now haha. I’ve still got a lot of progress to make, but a lot of the sound evolving is just me getting more confident with certain styles. For example I really want to get better at rapping and our song Kinda Love is me kinda testing the waters with that.

What can you reveal about new music? What can we expect next from you musically?

I am always working on the next thing! I stay bouncing back and forth between the idea of putting out a new project or just sticking to dropping singles. The biggest problem is I’m so picky with the songs I’ll finish so the idea of me just being inactive for that long to write 5 or 6 songs I’m comfortable with dropping just scares me haha I don’t think anyone will remember who we are if we disappeared for that long haha

This year may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean Ocean Heights will stop making music. Keep an eye out for them in the indie scene in 2020. They’re going places.
