mazie’s debut EP, “the rainbow cassette”, is a phenomenal project by the rising indie pop star that rightfully earns a spot as one of the best releases of the year.

Clocking in at just over 13 minutes, with each song being under 3 minutes long, it’s easy to jump into these tracks and become fully immersed in the world mazie creates through her music. mazie is clearly an artist who knows exactly who she is and what sound she wants, making this a very cohesive project that flows perfectly. Every song sounds like they were made to be together, but without sounding repetitive. Her unique sound incorporates vintage sounds with modern beats, invoking a certain nostalgia in the listener while still sounding incredibly fresh and different. Musically, these songs sound upbeat and joyful, almost toothrootingly sweet in the best way possible. But, like with many great artists, the moment you pay even the slightest bit of attention to the lyrics, you realize the messages are anything but. mazie is creating honest and heartbreaking tracks disguised under a bright and cheerful sound, and it’s fascinating to listen to. She is truly a one-of-a-kind artist who everyone needs to have on their radar ASAP. This is absolutely a must-hear for anyone and everyone who likes fun, eccentric pop music with meaningful lyrics. To get you started, check out stand-out tracks “dumb dumb” and “make believe”.

mazie will be performing at Governors Ball on September 24th, as well as supporting COIN on several dates of their upcoming American tour. Be sure to keep an eye out for more music from mazie in the future!
