Laura von Mari Releases ‘Forevermore’.
Written by Marissa Rodriguez
Indie-pop artist Laura von Mari just released her debut EP Forevermore; we love it so far. It is short, clocking in at only five songs, but where it lacks duration, it makes up for the quality in overall good vibes. She takes inspiration from artists of all genres: Debussy, Steely Dan, and Britney Spears, to name a few.
Track one, “Different Road”, is groovy (Which can describe the rest of the EP, too!) and has a 70's vibe. What I notice is that starting with this track and bleeding into the other four is the recurring theme, one we are seeing a lot in pop radio right now: heartbreak & female empowerment, and not needing a guy to have a good time.
The second song is “Forevermore”. This is another song with a seventies beat and vibes. A lyric that stood out is 'Save all of your apologies for Hades.' A strong message she is trying to send by referencing the king of the underworld there.
“If You Want It” is a track with a catchy synth and keyboard beat tune, which we can see being played at a club or lounge with drinks in hand while chatting with friends on a Friday evening.
“F**k You” has a key-heavy beat, reminiscent of a Stevie Wonder song. This one says F***k you to someone, most likely post-breakup. One of the lyrics even references a specific situation, leaving us wondering if this is something she has experienced. The lyric reads: 'Every time you stop by I can see the red in your dead eyes, I’m through with it.'
The last track on the EP is 'Fog'. It is one of the slower-tempo songs on the EP, which blends modern sounds with retro melodies and a rhythmic emphasis on keys, guitar, and drums. Overall, this EP is one that gets our approval, and we will be listening to it on repeat when we are in the mood for the grooviest music with a modern take.
