Interview with THICK.
Interviewed by: Sarah Evangelista
Being in this band for 7 years now, what is your fondest musical memory?
There are so many memories to pick from! The NYE show at Rough Trade in 2018 always stays with us- Nikki thought it would be the top of our career (it was her dream to open for Diarrhea Planet) and it actually ended up being so much more. It was the catalyst for Epitaph finding us and the start of a whole new journey for THICK.
You're in the midst of a North American tour, how has it been so far?
It's been so awesome! Every tour has a different energy and it feels so good making new friendships and connections. Skating Polly and Bad Waitress are so talented and fun to hang out with! We all spent the night together in a cabin upstate and had a big family dinner. We are also pumped to meet Vial :)
How much sleep have you all gotten? What are your must-haves for touring?
Sleep is limited, you learn to get as much of it whenever you can haha. Our must haves = peanut butter, hummus, advil and talk therapy in the van (+ Tums for Shari)
Happy Now was released about a month ago now, were there any differences making this project, compared to 5 Years Behind?
A very different process. We wrote this album during the pandemic and weren't able to test the material out before we recorded. This album was a way for us to reflect and process the past, the writing process felt a little more personal- each song tells one of our stories.
Which songs were the easiest and the hardest to make?
They all are easy and hard! I would say "Loser" was the easiest and "Wants & Needs" was the most frustrating. We couldn't figure out what we wanted to do with it until we got into the studio.
Who are your favourite artists at the moment?
Nikki- the Cure, Shari- Chappel Roan, Kate- Wet Leg
