What was the moment in life where you were like 'I want to do music'?
There was never a specific moment of realization where I decided to do music, it was pretty much always a part of me. I was lucky enough to have a mom who gave me the tools to choose what I want to do, and I wanted to play guitar when I was just 3 years old. I don’t remember my exact intentions, I just looked up to a lot of musicians and thought it would be cool. As the years went by, I just started to write songs because of…life. Falling into the world of music. That was deep. I should write a song about that.
How do you balance out acting and making music?
It’s not that difficult for me to balance them both because I’m so passionate about them, it doesn't feel like work. When I’m on set for example, I would bring my guitar and play in my trailer when I’m on a break. Acting always gives me inspiration for songwriting ideas, so I jot them down on my phone when I get the chance. I think that if you’re passionate about anything in life you’ll always find time for it.
You recently released "Copy & Paste", what do you love most about this track?
Really everything about it. When I work with Ainjel (my producer), I just feel like she really gets what I try to get out of the song and the core of my inspirations and intentions. It’s as if we share the same brain for a moment and she puts my idea to life. Even if sometimes it doesn’t start that way, the process of working on this song came to be a grand product. My entire life I dreamt to specifically have a great drummer, and Copy & Paste was the first song I got that, with the amazing Anothony Lopez!!!
What major differences have you seen between this track, and your last EP?
The most important factor that made my new track different from my other EP is that I got to have a greater set of tools behind the production. My first EP was produced by myself, when I was just learning how to produce, so the creative space was pretty limited, I only did what I knew. I’m still very proud and happy with what I’ve done, but I’m also extremely grateful to have an expanded team beside me on my upcoming singles. In this track, I got to go full out and hunt for any idea that could make this song as perfect as I wanted it to be (nothing is perfect… but you know what I’m saying) with the most talented people. My producer Ainjel Emme made it very possible to make this process satisfying.
Who are your favourite artists right now?
It will always be Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple, (I’m now in the Extraordinary Machine album phase) and I've come back to really love The Beach Boys!!!
