Interview with Bits in Pockets.

Turkish group Bits in Pockets released their new EP at the end of April. The project features singles, “Collette” and “Halfway Through An Episode”, along with one new tune. Their debut EP just shows The Bits to what Bits in Pockets can do, and we’re here through the whole ride.
We got to ask a few questions to the group.
Being a band since 2019, what is your most fond musical memory?
Versioning the first demos was very fun. The part where you hear your ideas in production for the first time is very overwhelming and enjoyable. It’s also to look back at initial demos and hear how they sounded like. The creation of demos and the rush of ideas is a very enjoyable part.
The new EP is called The Bits. Is this a play on words with the band name, like 'the bits and pieces of Bits in Pockets'? What was your intention with the EP title?
It’s meant to be a double entendre. It refers to as ‘The Bits’ of our musical repertoire, the bits and pieces of our musical knowledge. Secondly, as we are the Bits in Pockets, each one of us are ‘Bit’ of Bits in Pockets, collectively making us ‘The Bits’ in Bits in Pockets.
The EP features 3 tracks, including 2 previously released singles. Which ones were made first, and what pulled you towards these 3 specific songs for the EP?
“Collette”, “Halfway Through an Episode”, and “Wave on Backwards” were made in this subsequent order. We demoed a lot of songs, but we thought that these 3 would represent our musical diversity in the most compact way. “Collette” showed an angrier and unmerciful version of our sound, “Halfway Through an Episode” showed a bouncy and ska-like fast version of our sound, and “Wave on Backwards” showed a more ballad-y component of our sound.
Out of the three, which songs were the easiest and hardest to create?
The easiest song to create was “Wave on Backwards”. It took 2 weeks in total to finish from start to finish in the studio. Hardest to create was “Halfway Through an Episode”, it took us months to complete. The vocals, guitars, and bass recordings took many layers and takes of production in the studio.
Who are your favourite artists/bands at the moment?
I like listening to King Gizzard’s new music, Tropical Fuck Storm, and Mod Con.
