Chris Anthony Releases “Get Away” [Q&A].
Interviewed by: Sarah Evangelista
You released your first single of the year, last week, how are you feeling about it finally being out?
I’m super stoked this song is finally out! It was a couple months in the making and the response to it has been really awesome so far! It has been cool to see fans send in some TikToks they made using the record and getting a lot of direct feedback about the song has been really helpful as well.
You could say that this track is more upbeat than the last one that you released, was that always the idea for "Get Away?”
This song is for sure an upbeat summer jam! As most songs I write start off, they start on the piano as sort of a ballad. The original cut of the song was called “In The Night” and the premise of it was go capture the moment and being young in the night, but it ended up progressing into “Get Away" which puts more emphasis of letting go of your worldly possessions to enjoy what life has to offer.
You started working on music at a fairly young age, what advice would you give artists who are just starting out?
It does not matter if people do not take you seriously or don’t see your vision, it is important to actively keep working on your craft and keep trying to learn more each day so you can take your music to the next level. Another thing that is important to remember is not to compare yourself to others but rather - find that one thing you are good at and try to expand upon it to help build your brand. This is something that Drake Bell discussed with me about and it was really eye opening to hear about his work ethic, as he is someone in their 30s still grinding the same as he did when he was my age.
You've worked with so many talented musicians and producers like Warren Russell and Bardo, what's it like working with so much talent?
It has been awesome those guys have taught me a lot not only about music production but also about the industry, which is crucial to know especially since I am a young independent artists with no real team or management. Warren brought so much with his amazing guitar skill to my record “Alone” and Bardo is one of the most insane producers I have ever worked with. It’s crazy how everything just starts with an idea or vision and how one Instagram DM or one email can get things started.
Who are your favourite artists on the rise?
I’ve recently been into a band called Surfaces who became more mainstream with the release of their hit “Sunday Best.” They have came along way and it’s wild to think how loyal their fans are and the fact that they have only done one tour but garnerd so many streams! They also recently just released a song with Elton John which is mind blowing at it gives more smaller artists hope that if you stay unique and keep grinding you could get an opportunity like they did. They also made me realize that it is important to reach out to those bigger artists because you never know, they may end up liking what you are doing!
