Carly Rae Jepsen Releases ‘The Loveliest Time’.
Written by Marissa Rodriguez
Carly Rae Jepsen has released her sixth album, The Loveliest Time, a companion piece to the previous one, The Loneliest Time, created during the same period. Her tradition is to release a B-sides album for every regular release, but she explains that this one is different, as it complements the previous one. It is a thirteen-track album focusing on romantic energy instead of loneliness. Our favorites on this album include “Anything to Be With You”, “After Last Night”, “Psychedelic Switch”, and “So Right”.
Track one, “After Last Night”, with its claps and catchy hook ‘Never over, never, never over,’ is an instant favorite. We can picture ourselves walking through New York City to this one in a movie. ‘Psychedelic Switch’ is a seventies disco-inspired tune with modern electronic beats. It could be a moment at a skating rink, fitting for the influence. ‘So Right’ is the first song featuring skit dialogue with Cole M.G.N, fellow musician, songwriter, and producer-turned-boyfriend. Their close relationship allows them to be playful and have these musical experiences. Being a part of the same industry helps them understand each other, and we love that. This track is similar to ‘So Nice’ from The Loneliest Time. We will now listen to this album and dream of our love stories.
